A born and bred Yorkshireman who is a stickler and has a keen eye for detail, who is self taught and makes exceptionally beautiful knives. Based in South Yorkshire. Alan makes practical works of art.
Working from his own workshop as much as possible, creates these beautiful hand made knives. Alan, a lover of all things countryside with a background and interest in fieldsports and bushcraft. He uses his extensive knowledge in making these unique handcrafted knives.
​Alan being a craftsman produces knives individually for the skill and personality of their future owner, therefore quality and design is at the forefront of each knife he makes.  Alan started his path as a knife maker after thinking to himself that he wanted a craft, the ability to make something that would be useful and appreciated by others and after reading an article about making a bushcraft knife in a magazine decided to follow the steps and the first knife and his new passion was born.

Craftsman and creator at Danum Blades 

Doncaster for where I have lived for many years was once the Roman town of Danum pronounced "Day'num" and meaning The place on the river Don. It is possible,  that the river itself was named after one of the most venerable iron-age mother-goddesses, named Danu. This is where the Romans built a fort and was on the border of two different tribes. The Brigantis to the north of the river and the Coritani to the south  

The Logo is based on a roman shield. Very few roman shields have been found in Britain but one was found during excavations in the town back in 1971. The shield is believe to be dated from the 1st Century, it was rectangular in shape and had a large brass pommel in the centre.
